New Facebook Bejeweled Blitz Version Boosts Gems January Update

Being a bejeweled blitz fan, i am glad that they added more feature to the game in facebook. The interface is still as per the October 2009's game's interface. And they have added some official cheats into the game.

However, there is a catch, you have to earn the cheats yourself. Instead of trying to top the scoring chart, now you collect something a new gem called coins gems.

I have enlarge it for your reference. There are only 2 ways to earn the coins which are listed below

Ways to collect coin gems in Bejeweled Blitz
A coin gem can be treated as a yellow gem. To get 100 points, you have to form a cascade with, of course, the yellow gems. This is the main method. And no, you do not gain bonus coins even if you formed a cascade of 2 coin gems and 1 yellow gem, you will gain only 200 coins.

Additional coins can be gained at the end of every game. Every remaining coin gem will give you 100 coins and every level of multiplier will give you 100 coins as well. Confusing? Here are 2 example.

You have 2 coin gems at the end of the game with a multiplier level of 3x. You gain 2x100 + 3x100 coins.

You have 7 coin gems at the end of the the game and a multiplier level of 2x. You gain 900 coins in this scenario.

New Bejeweled Blitz Boost
As the name states, these booster gems are meant to help with you game, assisting you to gain even more points. There are 5 new booster gems added to the name, which are the mystery boost, the detonator boost, the scrambler boost, plus 5seconds boost and the multiplier boost. And depending on their usefulness, they cost different amount of coins, as shown above.

Once bought, a boost can be used for up to 3 rounds, after which the effect ceases and you have to repurchase and depending on the boost bought, the way the game play enhancement will be different.

Scrambler Boost Gem in Bejeweled Blitz for Facebook
One of the useless boost which i feel that is available. As the name states, it merely scrambles the gems on the board to give you a new view and provide you with new combination to blast the gems away. It can be used twice per game.

Do not buy this unless you have too much coins to spare

+5 Seconds Boost Gem
One of the critical gems to get high score. The 3rd most expensive gem at 5000, but i feel that this is way better than a mysterious unknown gem.

At the end of a game, this is usually where your score racks up extremely fast with the speed bonus and multipliers gathered during the first 40s of the game. If you are an alert player with fast reflexes, this gem is a winning factor for you to rule the scoreboard.

Detonator Booster Gem
It destroys any special gems such as multiplier gem, hyper gem, especially multiplier cubes that are out of reach. A multiplier gem that is destroyed at an earlier stage of the game, gives a big advantage over your score.

However, it should be a pretty rare case, where we are unable to destroy the special gems, hence given a choice, i will not purchase this boost for my game.

Mystery Gem
Do you like surprises? If yes, get this gem, you never know what special gem it is going to give you. If you are lucky, you get a multiplier gem to boost your scores immediately.

If not, a hyper cube will do too. Since destroying a hyper cube is almost 80% guaranteed to drop you a multiplier gem.

As for the rest of the special gems, no thanks, i am not interested. :)

Free Multiplier Boost Gem
The most expensive of all boost at 7.5k coins, which takes me around 10~25 games to accumulate. Though a bit deary, it does pay off itself with the scores i had.

If you are planning to cheat by restarting a lousy game before it ends, well, popcap has already taken prevention to this. If you bought the free multiplier gem boost, and your game has started, the boost is activated. Hence if you restart the game at the 55s remaining mark, say goodbye to your multiplier gem.

However, there are some bugs which i have discovered for these boosters. A boost, if not activated, can be used again.
Take for example the 5s booster gem. As long the game has not reached the last 10s and you restart the game, the booster will automatically activates itself on the next game.

If you like bejeweled blitz, you will definitely like bejeweled twist :)
It is free to download from popcap's website.

Avatar - My Thoughts

Instead of squeezing with the many others that are rushing to watch this epic movie by the director of the sinking ship, i choose to watch this near the end of its filming period. I watched the 3D version which is not very 3D.

And from the way they speak, i think i seriously need the subtitles in some parts of the movie.

Visual-wise, with or without 3D, the world of pandora is certainly a beautiful one, without the hungry humans. Floating hills, flying whatever, and dinosaur horses. Imagine more peaceful version of Lord of the rings ,without the sorcery, combined with medieval ages lifestyle, that somehow sums the background of the movie and the pandorians or the blue creatures.

Shall not dwell on the storyline which you should be able to find on other websites. Their way of taming creatures amused me. They have some kind of special hair extension which can communicate and bond with almost living thing, which also has such an extension, in their world. These hair extension is used to communicate with the horses and flying creatures and to control them.

In a particular scene where jake, the guy above on the right, has to pass a hunter test, he has to conquer a fierce flying mob by using his extension to link to the creature's mind to speak with it. And it seems as though he was trying to rape the poor ferocious creature, did the director purposely filmed the scene or was just me? :D

If there is anything that can transfer my mind out of my body, to another entity, other than a stationary tree, i love to try.

With such stunning graphics, watching it on anything less than HD quality is doing great injustice to the effort James Cameron put into the movie. Buy it only on blu ray disc and be awed by the visual effects of his fantasy world

The Shooting Star - JAL

Now it is official, they declared bankrupted. Pretty scary how a national airline could become dead broke.

And they are now finding a monk, with business experience, to take over temporarily. Interesting,

Just hope this serves as a warning to other airlines, esp our SIA, since JAL has reach the top and fell like a shooting star.

article below

TOKYO (AFP) - – Japan Airlines sought to reassure the travelling public Wednesday that it will keep flying despite declaring bankruptcy as its share price dropped to a new record low of just two US cents.

The debt-laden carrier apologised in full-page newspaper advertisements for causing "tremendous worries to customers" and promised that "JAL will keep flying" and that passengers' air miles will remain valid.

"Please be reassured and use us as before," the company pleaded.

The once iconic airline, a symbol of Japan's rise to prosperity, filed for bankruptcy protection Tuesday with 26 billion dollars in debt in the country's biggest post-war corporate failure outside the financial sector.

It is set to undergo a painful overhaul under a new corporate chief, with more than 15,600 jobs to be cut, reducing the workforce by a third, and many loss-making routes expected to be slashed.

JAL, which carries more than 50 million passengers a year, is set to receive almost 10 billion dollars in public funds and emergency loans under a three-year turnaround plan.

Related article: Foreign predators circle crippled Japan Airlines

Cabin crew have changed their inflight announcements, now promising passengers that the airline is "striving for an early revival."

"We ask for your continued patronage of the JAL group," a cabin attendant said in a choked voice as she rehearsed the announcement before television cameras at a meeting at Tokyo's Haneda airport.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange will delist JAL shares by February 20, a move expected to wipe out shareholders' investments.

JAL shares closed at a new record low of two yen (two US cents), down three yen or 60 percent from Tuesday.

The company has made no announcement regarding its tie-up talks with American and Delta Air Lines, which are in a bidding war for a slice of the carrier, eyeing its lucrative Asian landing slots.

JAL is understood to prefer switching its alliance from the American Airlines-led Oneworld grouping to SkyTeam with Delta.

The government has tapped Kazuo Inamori, a 77-year-old entrepreneur and ordained Buddhist monk, to run the stricken airline during its overhaul, replacing Haruka Nishimatsu, who resigned as president Tuesday.

JAL's woes, analysts said, are the result of years of bad management, high costs stretching back to its days as a state-owned flag carrier as well as government pressure to service unprofitable routes to small domestic airports.

JAL was also hit particularly hard by the global economic downturn because it has a bigger network of overseas flights than its smaller rival All Nippon Airways, which was supported by relatively stable demand on domestic routes.

Shinsei Securities credit analyst Yasuhiro Matsumoto said JAL's turnaround plan involved "getting rid of money-losing businesses to return to profit and is not based on unfounded optimism that travel demand will grow in the future."

However, he said, the government still "has no growth strategy. It doesn't have a strategy on how JAL should design its international network."

Standard & Poor's said its credit ratings on Japan's financial institutions and insurance companies -- many of which are owed money by JAL -- would be unaffected by a request for a debt waiver of billions of dollars.

The bankruptcy dominated newspaper front pages.

The Nikkei business daily said debt-ridden JAL's failure should serve as a warning to other companies and the government in a country where the public debt now stands at about 180 percent of gross domestic product.

"If you shun the pain that is ahead of you, greater pain will come some day," the Nikkei warned. "The fall of JAL, which shone in the past, sends this message to the state and companies."

An OST from the the anime shangri-la which i watched on crunchyroll. When i heard the OST, i thought was ayumi singing. Though the vocal is similar, there are noticeable difference between their voice.

This is a not a song which you will like immediately, listen long enough and it will grow on you,

Song Kimi Shinitamō Koto Nakare (キミシニタモウコトナカレ Thou Shalt Not Die?) The song name greatly suits the anime. However, i cant understand a single word. Tried using google translate with the jap lyrics and they make no sense at all.

Power EarthQuake Whacks Haiti's Capital

Now it is that bad, yet another devastating earthquake to hit the our planet earth. With poverty widespread among its citizens, i wonder how they are going to recover from this.

If you are wondering where Haiti is, it is sandwich between atlantic ocean and carribean sea. Refer to google map below

Gonna be a tough 2010 for them. Hope they have ample assistance from their neighbors.

Read from yahoo news below.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – Dazed and injured Haitians sat on darkened streets pleading for help Wednesday and untold numbers were trapped in tons of rubble brought down by the strongest earthquake to hit this poor Caribbean nation in more than 200 years.

The extent of destruction from Tuesday afternoon's 7.0-magnitude tremor was far from clear _ and estimating the number of casualties was impossible, save for the dead lying among thousands of collapsed buildings in Haiti's capital.

The ornate National Palace crumbled into itself, the headquarters of the U.N. peacekeeping mission collapsed, and swaths of rickety shacks lay in shambles. Clouds of dust thrown up by falling buildings choked Port-au-Prince for hours.

The United States and other nations began organizing relief efforts, alerting search teams and gathering supplies that will be badly needed in Haiti, the Western Hemisphere's poorest country.

Associated Press journalists found the damage staggering even for a country long accustomed to tragedy and disaster.

Aftershocks rattled the city as women covered in dust clawed out of debris, wailing. Stunned people wandered the streets holding hands. Thousands gathered in public squares long after nightfall, singing hymns.

It was clear tens of thousands lost their homes and many perished in collapsed buildings flimsy and dangerous even under normal conditions.

"The hospitals cannot handle all these victims," Dr. Louis-Gerard Gilles, a former senator, said as he helped survivors. "Haiti needs to pray. We all need to pray together."

An Associated Press videographer saw a wrecked hospital where people screamed for help in Petionville, a hillside Port-au-Prince district that is home to many diplomats and wealthy Haitians as well as the poor.

At a destroyed four-story apartment building, a girl of about 16 stood atop a car, trying to peer inside while several men pulled at a foot sticking from rubble. The girl said her family was inside.

U.N. peacekeepers, most of whom are from Brazil, looked for survivors in the ruins of what had been their five-story headquarters. U.N. peacekeeping chief Alain Le Roy said late Tuesday that "as we speak no one has been rescued."

Le Roy said many U.N. personnel were missing, including mission chief Hedi Annabi, who was in the building when the quake struck. Some 9,000 peacekeepers have been in Haiti since a 2004 rebellion ousted the president.

Much of the National Palace pancaked on itself, but Haiti's ambassador to Mexico, Robert Manuel, said President Rene Preval and his wife survived the earthquake. He had no details.

The 7.0-magnitude quake struck at 4:53 p.m., centered 10 miles (15 kilometers) west of Port-au-Prince at a depth of just 5 miles (8 kilometers), the U.S. Geological Survey said. USGS geophysicist Kristin Marano called it the strongest earthquake since 1770 in what is now Haiti.

The temblor appeared to have occurred along a strike-slip fault, where one side of a vertical fault slips horizontally past the other, said Tom Jordan, a quake expert at the University of Southern California. The quake's power and proximity to Port-au-Prince likely caused widespread casualties and structural damage, he said.

"It's going to be a real killer," he said.

Most of Haiti's 9 million people are desperately poor, and after years of political instability the country has no real construction standards. In November 2008, following the collapse of a school in Petionville, the mayor of Port-au-Prince estimated about 60 percent of buildings were shoddily built and unsafe in normal circumstances.

Tuesday's quake was felt in the Dominican Republic, which shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti, but no major damage was reported there. In eastern Cuba, houses shook but no significant damage was reported.

With electricity knocked out in many places and phone service erratic, it was nearly impossible for Haitian or foreign officials to get full details of the devastation.

In Washington, State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said that U.S. Embassy personnel were "literally in the dark" after power failed.

"They reported structures down. They reported a lot of walls down. They did see a number of bodies in the street and on the sidewalk that had been hit by debris. So clearly, there's going to be serious loss of life in this," he said.

The Diocese of Norwich, Connecticut, said at least two Americans working at its Haitian aid mission were believed trapped in rubble.

"Everybody is just totally, totally freaked out and shaken," said Henry Bahn, a U.S. Department of Agriculture official visiting Port-au-Prince. "The sky is just gray with dust."

President Barack Obama offered prayers for the people of Haiti and said the U.S. stood ready to help. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said the U.S. was offering full assistance _ civilian and military _ and a national organization of registered nurses called for nurse volunteers to provide care in Haiti.

Venezuela's government said it would send a military plane with canned foods, medicine and drinking water and provide 50 rescue workers.

Mexico, which suffered an earthquake in 1985 that killed some 10,000 people, planned to send doctors, search and rescue dogs and infrastructure damage experts.

Edwidge Danticat, a Haitian-American author whose books about Haiti have won the National Book Award and the Pushcart Prize, was unable to contact relatives in Haiti. She sat with family and friends at her home in Miami, looking for news on the Internet and watching TV news reports.

"You want to go there, but you just have to wait," she said. "Life is already so fragile in Haiti, and to have this on such a massive scale, it's unimaginable how the country will be able to recover from this."

Yet Another Singapore Telemarketer Thousand Dollar Voucher Scam?

telemarketing free voucher winning draw
Yet another sales marketing gimmick, this time, the target is me, myself and I. And this time, it is my turn to win something from a lucky draw out from a travel related survey, which i don't recall when.

As usual, the opening line attraction was,

Marketer: Are you Mr Lee?
Me: Yes

Marketer: Typical speech about how i enter the draw and collection venue was at singapore. And how much the gift was.

I was still trusting towards her, until a one liner took it all away. "You were selected out of 1000 participants" Yawn! One of the most stupid line ever given. My gambling luck has never been known to be excellent and with me hitting jackpot on a 0.1% chance, i was ~_~

As taken from savage garden santa monica

"But on the telephone line I am anyone, I am anything I want to be.
I could be a super model or Norman Mailer
And you wouldn't know the difference
Or would you?
"
She can be anyone, and i wouldn't bother about it as long as i get my voucher. She can even call herself Mandy if she wants.

This person just keep chattering like a machine gun and talk non stop, without giving me a chance.

Btw seems like they moved office, from Rolex building to Regency house. And she keep insisting it was regency building that i had difficulties finding in google map. When i agree to go down tomorrow evening,

Btw, they still are using the same telephone number that they are using a few years back at 65365886. I merely google for this number and i am given a big amount of resources. Pretty easy, much easier than the international hongkong scam.

Anyway, to add on, her phone etiquette sucks. talking to her colleague in the middle of conversation suddenly and with intermittent block seconds. And of course, her supervisor, this time is andy, chat with me personally to verify that i am going down.

Scam

We need to pay 5% deposit rate, as part of tax payment.
SCAM!

Staying at home have deprived me of some entertainment which i decided to have entertainment at their expense.

Called their number which was a hong kong number. No point me posting the number here, since they are not going to use it for long. I do not wish to post the number of some innocent fellow who might use the number in the future.

I did not have a rich experience, like kenny (see below), when interacting with them. They pretend to be ignorance when i told them i want to send the money over.

Me : Hi, i speak to miss X
Them : No such person

I was kinda depressed at this point as my entertainment was killed off even before it started. No details were extracted from them, as i was calling as a son. Maybe i should have impersonal my dad instead.

Chinese people really have great brains. They did minor tweaks to the nigerian scams. Instead of millions from some unknown dead colonel who has died without any next of kin, now they modify the scam to a lottery scam. They as chinese know that chinese are suckers when it came to gambling, or something that relies on luck.

They know how to earn money by adapting themselves to almost any situation. I am proud to be a chinese. lol

Burns FATS at Home Tips Anytime Anywhere

You think you are fat? And you do not wish to go to the gym to exercise because you are deformed? Slim down with kellogg fitness tips at home.

1. You want awesome arms

Get them by… Draping your windows
Forget slogging away with weights buff your biceps and your front room at the same time with a spot of window cleaning, painting or polishing. These chores force you to stretch and bend your arms with powerful movements, which make for a great workout and will give you arms like Jennifer Aniston.

The Move Ideally, you want to reach for a spot just higher or almost beyond arm's length, and then bring your arm back into your body. Aim to do 20 extensions with each arm, make sure you use both sides equally and don't let your back muscles do all the work – avoid this by keeping your shoulder blades back and down. Put some elbow grease into it and you'll burn up to 240 calories an hour.

Gym Equivalent 3 sets of 8-12 tricep dips and 3 sets of 8-12 bicep curls with light weights.

2. You want a tight tummy

Get it by… Scrubbing

You know those little exercise wheels that you push back and forth while kneeling on all fours to firm up your tummy muscles? Why bother with them when you can get exactly the same effect cleaning your bathroom floor!

The Move Simply kneel down on all fours and get scrubbing but to work your abs, not your back, keep your belly button pulled in and don't stick your bum out. With your arms outstretched, bring the cloth back towards you, breathing out and sucking in your abdominals as you go. Repeat 25 times and you'll have a gleaming floor and a tighter tummy in no time!

Gym Equivalent 2 sets of 15 crunches on an exercise ball.

QUICK TIP! Have a spring clean. A combination of dusting, sweeping, scrubbing and mopping will burn 300 calories an hour and your house will be spotless.

3. You want slender calves

Get it by… Phoning your friends

Next time you're chatting to someone on the phone, don't waste the opportunity to do some shaping and toning kick off your shoes and standup.

The Move Roll up from your heels to your toes and when you're as high up on your toes as you can get, pause, then slowly lower and repeat. Not only will this give you fab calves but standing also burns more calories than sitting down, so you're helping yourself shed pounds into the bargain. If it feels a little too easy, tuck one foot behind the other ankle and do one legged raises instead.

Gym Equivalent 3 sets of 10 standing and seated calf raises and 3 sets on the machine.

QUICK TIP! Have a dinner party. You'll burn 115 calories grocery shopping, 140 cooking for an hour, and 70 washing up for half an hour after. Just don't put it all back on by going mad with the cheese board at dinner!

4. You want perfect booty

Get it by… Sitting on your sofa

And you thought sitting down was the easiest thing in the world… well, not with "homeaerobics!" This swift move will work wonders for a less than toned behind!

The Move From now on, every time you go to sit down on the sofa or a kitchen chair, stop just before your bottom hits the seat, so your thighbones are nearly horizontal, pause, then straighten up again. Keep your tummy gently pulled in towards your spine and don't arch your back. If you do this three times every time you go to sit down (yes even on the loo!) you'll soon earn yourself a firm, lifted bottom to rival Kylie's!

Gym Equivalent 3 sets of ten squats or leg presses.

QUICK TIP! Throw away the remote control. Every time you switch channels by getting up from the sofa, you burn ten calories. It might not sound much, but in a year you could lose at least two extra pound of fat!

5. You want flab-free thighs

Get it by… hoovering your carpet

You might want to draw the curtains for this one to avoid surprised glances from your neighbours but it's an incredibly effective way to give your legs and thighs a great workout.

The Move Next time your carpets are looking like they could do with a clean, pickup the vacuum cleaner and imagine an Olympic fencer taking a lunge forward to strike their opponent, and try to copy the movement. As you sweep forwards with the vacuum cleaner, step forward with one leg, dropping your back knee almost to the floor. Bring the vacuum hose back as you return to the start position, then repeat with your other leg. Do ten on each leg and you'll have stronger, firmer thighs before you know it.

Gym Equivalent 3 sets of 10 lunges.

QUICK TIP! Climb the stairs and you'll burn nearly 100 calories in ten minutes if you're an average 10st woman. Leave your stuff at the bottom then take things up one by one to make sure you do your ten minutes every day.

This #6 tips is not for me ~_~

6. You want shapely breasts

Get it by… leaning on a counter or desk
OK, so your breasts might not contain any muscle, but they're supported by underlying muscles called the pectorals and if you can tone these up, you'll soon have perkier boobs. You don't need any fancy equipment, just ignore the strange looks from your family and try kitchen counter push ups while you wait for the kettle to boil.

The Move Simply take a step back from the counter, place your hands shoulder-width apart on the edge and, keeping your body in a straight line, lower yourself towards the counter by bending at your elbows. Pause, then straighten. Keep going until you can't do any more with good technique then have a well deserved cuppa.

Gym Equivalent 20 reps on a chest press machine.

QUICK TIP! Redecorate. Moving your furniture around burns 210 calories in just 30 minutesand you'll use up 280 calories for each hour you paint.

Reading these tips wun make you thinner, take acton. Using your finger to scroll wheel the mouse burns only 5 calories per hour. Constant left clicking for one hour will give u a toned indexed finger, which does not help for your body.

Rotating your eyeballs does not burn much calories, and i don't think you want to have muscular eyeballs.

So TAKE ACTION now with the above fitness tips at home if you really want to slim down.

It has ended. My Eyeshield 21

eyeshield 21 anime poster
Omg! It has ended, my current favorite anime Eyeshield 21. The story about a young gopher, Sena Kobayakawa (i should be gofer instead) Who suddenly become the hero for a failing american football high school team which has only 2 full time players (Hiruma and Kurita). Being a gofer for several years honed his exceptional running ability in finishing the errands in extremely short periods.

The story truly begin when they failed to get into the Spring tournament. They start to gather players such as their recevier, taro Raimon, who looks like an ape man. The 3 Ha-Ha brothers, you know why when u watch the show. A male "ballet" guy, taki, who is constantly spinning like a top.

Another yet must to watch if you are a genuine anime fan. The whole series spanned 145 episodes which takes you through their growth and share their joy and sorrows.

Overall, the anime feel is similar to Tsubasa anime series, where ridiculous play and naming style is given in order to show how powerful a move is. One of the reasons why i am hooked on this video.

Another hooking reason is that Eyeshield 21 is an anime with character development. It shows the struggle behind every main character and how to grow, develop and break through your limit, by believing in yourself.

If you are lacking in motivation or feel aimless in life, watch this. If you are on a roll of confidence, watch this too. Learn that getting to the top is not a 1 time effort. It is the effort of consistently training. Likewise, those at the top did not get there in 1 day. They stayed their because of their ability.

And when you are defeated, raise again to fight another day!

Spoiler,
i always thought sena and suzuna will end up together in the anime, but they never. As well hiruma and mamori.

here a short episode of episode 139

Final Amazing facts of the human body

Happy New Year~!~! Hope it is a merry and bright new year day for you guys.

And here the final parts to the amazing 100 facts of the human body.

Check out #83and #85. If it is correct, we are losing billions of cells everyday!! Then wun we be growing smaller?

I wonder where does the author gathers his information!

Muscles and Bones

Muscles and Bones provide the framework for our bodies and allow us to jump, run or just lie on the couch. Here are a few facts to ponder the next time you’re lying around.

  1. It takes 17 muscles to smile and 43 to frown. Unless you’re trying to give your face a bit of a workout, smiling is a much easier option for most of us. Anyone who’s ever scowled, squinted or frowned for a long period of time knows how it tires out the face which doesn’t do a thing to improve your mood.
  2. Babies are born with 300 bones, but by adulthood the number is reduced to 206. The reason for this is that many of the bones of children are composed of smaller component bones that are not yet fused like those in the skull. This makes it easier for the baby to pass through the birth canal. The bones harden and fuse as the children grow.
  3. We are about 1 cm taller in the morning than in the evening. The cartilage between our bones gets compressed by standing, sitting and other daily activities as the day goes on, making us just a little shorter at the end of the day than at the beginning.
  4. The strongest muscle in the human body is the tongue. While you may not be able to bench press much with your tongue, it is in fact the strongest muscle in your body in proportion to its size. If you think about it, every time you eat, swallow or talk you use your tongue, ensuring it gets quite a workout throughout the day.
  5. The hardest bone in the human body is the jawbone. The next time someone suggests you take it on the chin, you might be well advised to take their advice as the jawbone is one of the most durable and hard to break bones in the body.
  6. You use 200 muscles to take one step. Depending on how you divide up muscle groups, just to take a single step you use somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 muscles. That’s a lot of work for the muscles considering most of us take about 10,000 steps a day.
  7. The tooth is the only part of the human body that can’t repair itself. If you’ve ever chipped a tooth you know just how sadly true this one is. The outer layer of the tooth is enamel which is not a living tissue. Since it’s not alive, it can’t repair itself, leaving your dentist to do the work instead.
  8. It takes twice as long to lose new muscle if you stop working out than it did to gain it. Lazy people out there shouldn’t use this as motivation to not work out, however. It’s relatively easy to build new muscle tissue and get your muscles in shape, so if anything, this fact should be motivation to get off the couch and get moving.
  9. Bone is stronger than some steel. This doesn’t mean your bones can’t break of course, as they are much less dense than steel. Bone has been found to have a tensile strength of 20,000 psi while steel is much higher at 70,000 psi. Steel is much heavier than bone, however, and pound for pound bone is the stronger material.
  10. The feet account for one quarter of all the human body’s bones. You may not give your feet much thought but they are home to more bones than any other part of your body. How many? Of the two hundred or so bones in the body, the feet contain a whopping 52 of them.

Microscopic Level

Much of what takes place in our bodies happens at a level that we simply can’t see with the naked eye. These facts will show you that sometimes that might be for the best.

  1. About 32 million bacteria call every inch of your skin home.Germaphobes don’t need to worry however, as a majority of these are entirely harmless and some are even helpful in maintaining a healthy body.
  2. Humans shed and regrow outer skin cells about every 27 days. Skin protects your delicate internal organs from the elements and as such, dries and flakes off completely about once a month so that it can maintain its strength. Chances are that last month’s skin is still hanging around your house in the form of the dust on your bookshelf or under the couch.
  3. Three hundred million cells die in the human body every minute. While that sounds like a lot, it’s really just a small fraction of the cells that are in the human body. Estimates have placed the total number of cells in the body at 10-50 trillion so you can afford to lose a few hundred million without a hitch.
  4. Humans shed about 600,000 particles of skin every hour. You may not think much about losing skin if yours isn’t dry or flaky or peeling from a sunburn, but your skin is constantly renewing itself and shedding dead cells.
  5. Every day an adult body produces 300 billion new cells. Your body not only needs energy to keep your organs up and running but also to constantly repair and build new cells to form the building blocks of your body itself.
  6. Every tongue print is unique. If you’re planning on committing a crime, don’t think you’ll get away with leaving a tongue print behind. Each tongue is different and yours could be unique enough to finger you as the culprit.
  7. Your body has enough iron in it to make a nail 3 inches long.Anyone who has ever tasted blood knows that it has a slightly metallic taste. This is due to the high levels of iron in the blood. If you were to take all of this iron out of the body, you’d have enough to make a small nail and very severe anemia.
  8. The most common blood type in the world is Type O. Blood banks find it valuable as it can be given to those with both type A and B blood. The rarest blood type, A-H or Bombay blood due to the location of its discovery, has been found in less than hundred people since it was discovered.
  9. Human lips have a reddish color because of the great concentration of tiny capillaries just below the skin. The blood in these capillaries is normally highly oxygenated and therefore quite red. This explains why the lips appear pale when a person is anemic or has lost a great deal of blood. It also explains why the lips turn blue in very cold weather. Cold causes the capillaries to constrict, and the blood loses oxygen and changes to a darker color.

Miscellaneous

Here are a few things you might not have known about all different parts of your anatomy.

  1. The colder the room you sleep in, the better the chances are that you’ll have a bad dream. It isn’t entirely clear to scientists why this is the case, but if you are opposed to having nightmares you might want to keep yourself a little toastier at night.
  2. Tears and mucus contain an enzyme (lysozyme) that breaks down the cell wall of many bacteria. This is to your advantage, as the mucus that lines your nose and throat, as well as the tears that wet your eyes are helping to prevent bacteria from infecting those areas and making you sick.
  3. Your body gives off enough heat in 30 minutes to bring half a gallon of water to a boil. If you’ve seen the Matrix you are aware of the energy potentially generated by the human body. Our bodies expend a large amount of calories keeping us at a steady 98.6 degrees, enough to boil water or even cook pasta.
  4. Your ears secrete more earwax when you are afraid than when you aren’t. The chemicals and hormones released when you are afraid could be having unseen effects on your body in the form of earwax. Studies have suggested that fear causes the ears to produce more of the sticky substance, though the reasons are not yet clear.
  5. It is not possible to tickle yourself. Even the most ticklish among us do not have the ability to tickle ourselves. The reason behind this is that your brain predicts the tickle from information it already has, like how your fingers are moving. Because it knows and can feel where the tickle is coming from, your brain doesn’t respond in the same way as it would if someone else was doing the tickling.
  6. The width of your armspan stretched out is the length of your whole body. While not exact down to the last millimeter, your armspan is a pretty good estimator of your height.
  7. Humans are the only animals to produce emotional tears. In the animal world, humans are the biggest crybabies, being the only animals who cry because they’ve had a bad day, lost a loved one, or just don’t feel good.
  8. Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people do. This doesn’t have a genetic basis, but is largely due to the fact that a majority of the machines and tools we use on a daily basis are designed for those who are right handed, making them somewhat dangerous for lefties to use and resulting in thousands of accidents and deaths each year.
  9. Women burn fat more slowly than men, by a rate of about 50 calories a day. Most men have a much easier time burning fat than women. Women, because of their reproductive role, generally require a higher basic body fat proportion than men, and as a result their bodies don’t get rid of excess fat at the same rate as men.
  10. Koalas and primates are the only animals with unique fingerprints.Humans, apes and koalas are unique in the animal kingdom due to the tiny prints on the fingers of their hands. Studies on primates have suggested that even cloned individuals have unique fingerprints.
  11. The indentation in the middle of the area between the nose and the upper lip has a name. It is called the philtrum. Scientists have yet to figure out what purpose this indentation serves, though the ancient Greeks thought it to be one of the most erogenous places on the body
