Tips for overseas holiday planning

101 plaza in taipei

Days are drawing closer, the preparation is almost complete. Since i am the sole person that been to taipei for 3-4 times? or even more, i am un-officialy the organiser.

From checking out the ticket prices, hunting for bargain trips, to ensuring all trips details are done, money changing and trip itinerary.

So what are the things we need to look out for, from the head to the tail process? Below are some tips for overseas holiday preparation compiled by me. This does not applies to only taipei, but other overseas holiday trip that you are planning as well.

Trip Itinerary
So what do we want? A free and easy schedule? or a schedule that is planned by the tour agency to see must-see boring statues, eat must-eat food that everyone has eaten in taipei, or have out own time to explore whatever places we desired?

If you are looking for the must-see statues, take photos of must-see building, and most importantly do not want to risk getting lost in an unknown place, a tour package is for you. It is safe, you have a tour guide to guide you, talk to you, inform you about what happens a hundred years at a particular location. Look no further, join a tour package and pack your luggage and get ready to fly off.

However, if you prepare some risk elements and love the freedom and almost everything reversed of the above paragraph, free and easy package is definitely for you. however, a lot of tour preparation has to be done and confirmed.

Tour Preparation such as
- choosing air flight and hotel
- Air line tickets and hotel confirmation
- Ways to get to your hotel
- Where to go

Choosing an air flight and booking a hotel
This is probably the most complicated part of the free and easy package! With free and easy, you have almost limitless combination of air flights to take, hotels to stay and flight timing.

Finding the perfect flight with the timing is certainly the most difficult aspect. We spend almost 1 month looking for air ticket promotions, before we settled on the one we feel was the best at the moment. Airlines were constantly giving out promotions which ended quite fast.

I feel that it is not easy to get the best promotion. For book airline tickets, early birds get the worm. The promotions we saw were often snapped up and expired fast. Thus if you feel that certain promotions are the best one at the moment, take out your credit card and order immediately, you wun want to miss and wait for a new promotion again.

Airline tickets and hotel confirmation
This is a no brainer, without the aeroplane to bring us and hotel to stay in, we will be refugees in a foreign land. As everything is done ourselves, we will need to check the confirmations again when the dates draw nearer.

For my current trip, i will have used zuji to book for my tour which i feel extremely comfortable with.

Ways to get to the hotel
Cab of course, but how about when we are in taipei? Try being a local, try taking their MTR or train service.

Where to go
Do your research well if its the first time you are travelling to the country. Take note of the eating and shopping location. Eating their localised food will greatly immense you into their culture.

Do not go around eating MacDonalds or KFC, don't you have those in your own country? Unless you are telling me, burgers taste always better on the other side! (grasses are always greener on the other side)

A couple of places on my mind which i intended to visit when i am in taipei.
Shopping, you cant miss this when you are bringing 3 females overseas~

- WuFenPu
- XiMenDing
- XinYi
- Zhong Xiao
- Shilin Night Market
- Rou He Night Market
- Longshan Si or Longmen Si
- Dan Shui
- Taipei 101

Tentatively, my brain could only think of this many locations at 2am, probably i might be able to have more after a good night sleep~

Any more suggestions?

This post on tips for overseas holiday preparation seems haphazard and was prepared late in the night, thus some points might have been missed out. But i guess these are the basic tips for tour preparation.
