Blood Ties Movie Review 还魂 - Big BOO BOO

blood tie 还魂 movieBlood Ties Movie Review 还魂

What does 还魂 means? in direct translation, it means soul returning to body. The chinese believe that the soul will return to visit the family members on the 7th night of death and the show is scened at the 7th night only.

Expecting a horror show? Read on.

Storyline
Shun, a policeman, and his wife were brutally murdered by the trials. Shun seeks revenge by possessing his sister, Qing, on the 7th night. During the night, he seeks out his enemies one by one and even the evil police inspector that is in cahoots with the gang.

Extremely thin plot. And do not watch this if you are expecting a horror show. Nothing horrible, no ghastly ghost or event.

Even with the big stars 曾江 and 郑佩佩,this fails to liven up the movie.

This movie leans more towards gore with some sexual themes and the coarse language.

Revenge is done by Qing (as she was possessed) and the first 2 murders are executed by dick cutting and dick shooting, because those 2 rape and murder his wife.

The plot does not run thru chronologically, instead, it does flashbacks to show you what happened in the past that leads to the current scene. the flashbacks are executed perfectly and greatly enhance the storyline.

Along the way, there are coarse languages, however there are some inconsistency in subtitles and languages.

In some subtitles, the famous 4 letter F word is shown completely, while another, the F word is censored as F#$%.

And while chatting with people, i do not think that we switch languages consistently. If you are speaking english to your friend during a conversation, you stick with it all the way right?

In one scene, i forgot who the actors are, A and B are talking in cantonese, and in another scene, A and B are talking in chinese. And yet another scene, in english.

Did the director forgot what language the actors are supposed to chat in? Or is the director trying to say "Hey, my actors are multi-lingual"

And seems like this show seems like a soft porn movie to me, due to the way the sexual scenes are acted out. My vocabulary pretty limited to describe this fully to you. Check out other hongkong movies with sexual scenes and probably you might catch what i am trying to say.

As this Blood ties movie review 还魂 states, it is not recommend to watch this movie if you are looking for the horror theme. To me, the poster, the title, does not match the gene.

Not much of ghostly actions, it is more of violence and revenge. An extremely lame horror show to me. Thriller? Nah, dun plan on a single one. There are no thrills.

It will be better if the designer or whoever change the poster and title to suit the revenge theme, instead of trying to showcast as a horror show.

Change the trailer too please!

thank you (=

Complete waste of my money as i was expecting a horror show!

  1. Not really. As Singaporeans, we speak a rojak of languages..
My friend speaks in Chinese, I reply in Cantonese. I speak to my friend in English, he answers in Chinese and most of the time, our sentences are even mixed with Malay or even other dialects. Let me then ask you, "how many languages/ dialect do you use in one conversation?" I bet you use more than one :)

  2. Well, certainly, we as sg'rean, we will use more than one language in a conversation. and was still "okay" for me.

and as i wrote above, probably the director is trying to say "Hey, my actors are multi-lingual"

    :)

Taking into consideration for other non-chinese/dialect speaker, this film might hv been confusing with the inconsistencies.

    Don't you notice that too?
    :)
