PopCap Bejeweled Twist

After a few months of playing facebook bejeweled blitz, i was getting a bit sick and surfed popcap's website (creator of bejeweled blitz) and discovered a new game!!

It is called Bejeweled Twist!

As the game title says, you twist the gems to do the swappin instead of a 1-1 swap.

The game as the video above and how i played. As shown in the video, you will always rotate in a clockwise direction and in groups of 4.

For facebook bejeweled blitz, i am sure that you have encountered instants where the gems auto explode on their own in a fuzzy automated combo streaks.

Missed the action? Popcap Bejeweled Twist allows you to replay the combo. Great for reviewing how you get the massive incrediable high score!

If you like facebook bejeweled blitz, you will definitely like popcap bejeweled twist. The game is free for download. Click on image below to download.

Living on a Budget

Saving money when living on a budget

When you are short of money and your income is getting low and you are trying to save every single cent, you are living on a budget. Yap, I am living on a budget now.

And pretty much reduce my expediture during this 2 months. And you do not have to cut down on the luxuries in life.

Heres what i did.

Electricity
- For computers, switch off the LCD monitor if you are not using it, as LCD comsumes a lot more electricity than the CPU.

- If you are planning to boils lots of hot water, do not use the electric kettle to boil as the electricity consumed is huge compared to boiling using gas.

Battling hunger
- When you are hungry in between meals, skip the junk food. Instead, i purchase cornflakes and milk to go along.

- In the supermarket, go for the house brand which is usually a lot cheaper than the branded cornflakes like Kellogs. Compare the ratio of "weight of cornflakes / price" The higher the ratio, the better.

For the milk, unless you have a cow or goat at home, you have no choice but to buy from the supermarket. For this, go for the favor you like, as milk gives the taste of his meal.

For more variety of taste, choose different flavors of cornflakes.

For me, a $10.40 (1litre of milk x 4) and $4 (cornflakesm largest packet) is able to last me around a week plus if i eat everyday, on somedays, twice a day.

Considering that packet of flakes and milk is able to last me for estimated of 15 mini meals, the cost is only $1/meal. Add in the 3 minutes of washng and the cost of water needed to wash the bowl and spoon. $0.10

Still much cheaper and healthier than junk food? (=

Main Course
Eat from hawker centre or food centre, or preferably, cook your own. Since i am only adept in cooking instant noodles with egg. The cooking method is definitely not suitable for me. However if you are good in cooking, use this method.

The downside? Washing oily plates.

From the above, my spending is as follows.
Averagely, my meals cost around $10/day x 30days + $15 x2 (cornflakes) and it works out to be $330/month

Cheap? For me certainly is. It could go down even lower if i stock up some food and cook it myself at home.

** Note, the monentary value quoted are in Singapore Dollars

Murderer Movie by Aaron Kwok - 杀人犯

Murderer Movie poster - Aaron kwok - 杀人犯海报

I did not realise i watch this movie this late! The show started on the 9th July and i only watched yesterday, which was 27th Jul~~

The story starts with Aaron's colleague being severely injured and Aaron was the only one at the crime scene and he had lost his memories. Along the investigations, he discovered that the evidences start to point back to him. So is he the murderer?

Spoiler:
Well, with the lame questioned thrown back to us by the director. Obviously the answer is no.
Initially i suspected was the wife who was plotting the murder to frame Kwok. But it wasn't. I did not even expect the murderer. Which is his own adopted kid.Let call this kid, ZaiZai

Apparently, the adopted kid was someone whom aaron bullied while he was young. And the amazing thing is, ZaiZai was his step brother!!

Hard to believe read on~

ZaiZai was borned to another woman when his father fooled around with her. Aaron Kwok was the "official" child, while ZaiZai was the illegitimate child. Arron and ZaiZai played together when they are young and ZaiZai was often bullied.

And why ZaiZai still have a child-like body while Aaron was 30+ ?

Here the lame part. ZaiZai contacted some disease that stops his body from growing thus the chiild-like body.

Thus a battle of getting each other dead begins. So who is the winner in the end? ZaiZai or Aaron?

Go watch the movie and check out the ending yourself.

The director tries to flash back parts where Aaron recovers parts of his memories, however, the way he does the effects makes it more like a ghost movie.

Aaron did not display much of an ominous look as the poster itself during the movie.

This show teaches us something, sometimes death is an easier escape. And beware of small kids that cant grow physically in size! =D

Sally Roast Meat Rice at Cactus Road - Singapore

Sally Roast Meat Rice at Cactus road - singaporeUsually i do not do food review, because i never like to take pictures of food and posing with mouth open just like those female bloggers. Maybe for them, but not for me to do a jaw expanding exercise!

But the food is simply too delicious not to share with you all. It's an unofficial crime not to share knowledge of good food in Singapore.

Just kidding. (=

And this post will be about Sally Roast Meat Rice located at Cactus Road. And where in singapore is cactus road? Its at Yio Chu Kang Road. I happened to be there doing pc servicing and was recommended the food there by my client.

Although the area there are all bungalows, the food is certainly cheap. The basic meal is $2.50 at this store. And i ordered a $3 meal, not because i wanted to, but because the stall owner told me that he does not have $0.50 to change me back.

A lame reason? But I verified by looking into his coin container. and 1 whole bowl of $1 coins, filled to the brim.

Good business! Taking a look around the store, almost everyone is eating roast meat rice! (They have 2 other stores selling food which i forgot they are selling)

A typical $3 meal anywhere in Singapore for roast meat rice, you will very little meat. And sometimes, the meat or the sauce does not taste well.

However, for a $3 meal, i get more than what i expected.

Lots of meat, with slight fats, the meat and the soft fats blends well together. Marvellous!

Slightly over roasted skin, crunchy, mixed with the meat, Tasty!

Lastly, mixed with the sauce, Heavenly!

You need a car to get there as it is pretty inconvenience to go by bus.

Have a try eating at sally roast meat rice. There are several cafes there, just look for one that is air conditioned. There is only 1. Go in and you should see the store as per roast meat rice store's image above.

Order and enjoy!

Lost of Ezlink Card and Customer service Officers

Adult Ezlink Card

My Ezlink card (a card used when travelling on public transport in Singapore) was apparently stolen, by some bugger who took it while i fall asleep in the bus.

If you are the fellow take stole this and is reading this, quickly spend the money before the card is banned.

I tried to cancel the card with the MRT train station officer, and i got some interesting replies

Me : Hi, i wish to cancel my ezlink card
Officer :You have to take your ezlink card to the machine and do XXXXX transaction
Me : My card was lost apparently, (if not i will not approach you)
O : Cancellation cannot be done here, you have to call a hotline
Me : What the number? I wish to call now
O : XXXXXXXXX, you cant call now, its is only available during working hours
Me : (Why called a hotline then) thanks

the words in the brackets are my thoughts, not spoken to her, of course!
Part of the conversation was forgotten and was edited by me, but that was how the conversation flows.

Rather than approach Customer Service Officers, most of the time i prefer signs and boards unless i can. Why? The answers given by CSO are pre written. No matter how the questions are phrased, the answers are usually uniform, word by word. And the replies are as standard as the signboards or helpbook.

They are just afraid of making mistakes and offending the customers. And if they offended the customer, this leads to complaints. Singaporeans are marvellous at complaining. And complains = poor service = lesser promotion chance = superior feel that the CSO cannot perform at work.

Well, that the singapore lifestyle. Maybe for other parts of the world, i believe they might face the same issue as well.

Previously, i had a short period where i was working as the technical officer whenever the technical guy is out station, and not wanting to provide additional services and lease offending customers. I gave the "standard" answers as well!

There is a chinese saying, 多做多错,少做少错,which means, the more you do, the more errors you will encounter, the less you do, the less error you will encounter. Meaning, by providing additional services, you are risking yourself to even more mistakes. And more mistakes? Leads to more complains!

Looks like i sidetracked pretty much! From an Ezlink card, it became CSO related issues.

From my humble opinion, each store or location should have an FAQ book. So that whenever we asked any questions to ask, the CSO could flip to the page where the answer is and show to us.

By not speaking, this greatly reduce their chance to incur complains. And since their replies are as standard as robots, a black and white book with no variation in wordings serve the purpose perfectly well.

I Paid for Michael Jackson's DVD

I cant believe that i actually bought his DVD concert, "Michael Jackson - Live in Bucharest : The Dangerous Tour"

An interview with myself.

How i bought this?
I was waiting for my gf while she was attending some talks in Toa Payoh. I stood for 40 mins watching TS (DVD retailer) showing MJ concert.

Which Scene causes me to have the impulse to buy this?
The scene which he stand at 45 degrees without any support. And the song smooth criminal which reminds me of me asking my gf if she is okay. haha

Do you feel that it is valued for money
When i bought, i have the buyer's regret. But considering that i could watch this on my monitor and enjoy the concert effect after a week of hard work, it removes the buyer remorse.

Considering that this guy is HIStory. Maybe my DVD will pay back for me if i am selling it in the future when MJ's stuffs are as hard to find as dinosaur's fossil.

Any Last words?
Damn, the DVD is not dectected on my PC, but is able to be played in the living room's DVD player, hence, technically, the disc is working. Thus i cant get a refund or exchange!

A Walk Down Memory Lane

Jurong West St 92
Does the title seems a bit emo? Probably. I went back to the area which i grew up when i was in primary school- secondary school, around the age where everyone still listens to their parents.

The affectionate place is at Jurong West, around St 91~92, I grew up at block 92x.
Firstly, of cos, i visited my old flat, and it was now occupied by a Malay family.
Walking along the coffee shops of Jurong West St 91, almost all the eateries have changed owner as far as i recalled. However, some of the shops still remained from my memories.

Like the medical hall has been there since i moved there. The POSB bank, (i thought it has closed!), the small stationary shop, some of the bread shops and 2 of the clinics. Which their business are still thriving.

The old Macdonald disappeared and has been replaced by another coffeeshop. First time i saw that a Macdonald franchise closed down.

There was no City Harvest Church when i was living there nor was there a flea market. Even the buses to go there had changed. Previously, i used to take bus 242 and 99 to go there. Now 242 has changed route and 241 is the replacing bus number to go there.

To reminish the olden days, i ate pratas (Indian Pancakes) at the 1st coffeeshop. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd coffeeshop is named based on their distance from my house. the 1st is the nearest and the 3rd is the furthest.

To end the trip, i specially took bus 99 with my gf back to clementi. A long journey certainly. The journey and bus which i took to visit my grandma when i was much younger!

Try going back to the area you lived when you are young. I am sure that memories will just flow back!

Simple Money Saving Tips

Recession?

Not for China, but since we are not living in China. We are still in a recession!
Here are some simple money saving tips from an article i read named "DIY way to beat recession"

=============

While it may be the easiest thing to have your clothes washed, dried and pressed at the laundrette or send your car to the car wash, it may not always be the cheapest option. Here are some tips for recessionistas to undertake simple tasks without burning a hole in their pocket.

PAMPER ME

WE all love spending an afternoon at the spa. But it doesn't have to cost a bomb if you know how to do it in the comfort of your own home and when everything you need can be found in your kitchen!

Start by boiling a kettle of water. Then break an egg and separate the white. Cut two slices of cucumber.

While waiting for the water to boil, wash your face with a cleanser. A foaming cleanser would be better as it would remove oil and dirt more effectively.

Start by boiling a kettle of water. Then break an egg and separate the white. Cut two slices of cucumber.

While waiting for the water to boil, wash your face with a cleanser. A foaming cleanser would be better as it would remove oil and dirt more effectively.

Once the water starts boiling, pour it into a basin large enough to cover your face. Gently lean over the basin and allow the steam from the hot water to open the pores of your skin.

It is more effective if you put a towel over your head and not let the steam escape. Take care not to burn your face; keep your face a few inches away from the basin and let your face steam for about five minutes.

Next, take the egg white and rub it all over your face, except the eye area. You will feel your skin tightening. Don't worry because this is normal. Lie down and place the cucumber slices on your eyes which are excellent for dark circles and eyebags. Leave the egg white and cucumber slices on for about 10 minutes.

When done, throw cucumber slices away and rinse your face off with warm water and then wash again with your cleanser. Your skin should feel tightened, refreshed, and revitalised.

You can also substitute the egg white mask with a mask made of yoghurt, turmeric, honey and oatmeal if you have dry skin. This mask would also help exfoliate skin and draw out impurities.

Tip: Take an ice cube and rub it all over the face first thing in the morning. It is an excellent pick-me-up.

LOVE YOUR LAUNDRY

DOING the laundry is something most people dread. With laundry services available in almost all neighbourhoods, it's easy to just drop off your dirty laundry and pick them up, all clean and crisp a few days later.

Although bigger and heavier materials such as curtains, bedspreads and blankets can be sent to the laundrette or to the dhoby, shirts, T-shirts, shorts, long pants, blouses, skirts and even dresses can be easily washed at home. Imagine your washing machine as your personal laundromat.

The first rule of doing laundry is to separate the whites from the coloureds. You don't want to see your white shirt turn pink from the colour that ran from your red blouse. Similarly, soft fabric such as silk, wool and lace should be washed separately.

Also, sort materials that produce lint (those clinging bits of fibre or fluff) such as towels, flannel and chenille. These tend to stick on other clothes if washed together.

Remember that some undergarments, especially underwired bras, are best hand-washed so that the wires do not get twisted or mangled.

Don't forget to empty pockets of coins, handkerchiefs or facial tissues. Coins can sometimes dislodge in the washing machine while facial tissues shred into a million bits and stick to other clothes.

If stains are obvious on clothes, spray stain remover or rub some liquid detergent on the stains before putting them into the wash. Always turn clothes inside out to prevent colour fading.

Add the right amount of detergent according to the washing machine instructions or measurement specified on detergent packaging.

Wash soft fabrics in the soft wash cycle. Wash in either hot or cold water according to care instructions on clothes' labels. If you don't have a dryer, just hang them out in the sun, once again turned inside out, until they're dry. Don't leave them out too long as colours fade faster.

HOUSE CLEANING FOR DUMMIES

THE most basic thing when it comes to house cleaning is taking care of the floor.

With a bit of 'coaching' anyone can mop and clean pretty decently.

Give the rooms a good sweep before mopping. This will remove the grainy and sandy particles, not to mention the hair and dust clumps that will stubbornly refuse to disintegrate no matter how rigorously you mop. This will also save you precious time later when you have to clean the mop.

You need a bucket of water, a good mop and some floor cleaner (preferably something bio-degradable) to get the job done. Mopping with just water will not remove any grime nor disinfect the floor, so I would advise against it. Also, make sure to follow the correct ratio of water to floor cleaner, otherwise, you'll end up with a very soapy floor that may need to be wiped down with water. It's certainly a hassle you can do without.

Wring the mop off excess water, grip the handle like you would a hockey stick, and mop away. After a dozen or so swipes, rinse the mop in the bucket of soapy water and continue mopping.

When the water looks murky, change it. It's also a good idea to keep the fan on while you mop. That way, you'll get to enjoy some cool air as you work, the floor will dry faster and there's less chance of finding dirty footprints on the pristine floor later.

FIX THAT FAUCET

THERE is nothing quite as annoying as having a leaky tap in the dead of the night. But why burn a hole in your pocket hiring a plumber when you can do it yourself at a fraction of the cost?

All you need is a new tap washer and a wrench or spanner.

Start by turning off the water supply, either at the mains or at the tap head nearest to the leaky tap. Then turn the affected tap fully on.

Unscrew the tap head and remove the top of the tap. You will find the washer (a small ring-like rubber piece) fitted loosely inside the tap. Replace the old washer with a new one. Screw the tap head back on.

Turn on the water supply at the mains and when the water flows through the affected outlet, turn the tap off. Check for drips and leaks. If the washer was the problem, there shouldn't be any more drips or leaks.

The advice from professional plumbers is not to over-tighten the tap when turning it off as this can damage the washers.

And if you have a clogged kitchen sink, a simple sink plunger will solve your problem.

Block the overflow holes and other openings by stuffing wet rags into them. If there is no water in the clogged basin, run about 8cm of water over the drain hole, place the plunger over the hole and force it down several times. If the water still does not flow properly, repeat the process until the water in the sink flows down the drain smoothly.

As some food debris will inevitably get washed down the kitchen sink, it's advisable to pour a kettle of boiling water down the drainhole once a week to clear the pipes.

WORK OUT WHILE YOU WASH

CONTRARY to what many might think, washing your own car can be quite fun. What's more, you save about RM12 and get a good work-out to boot!

All you need is car shampoo, a car wash sponge, two pieces of soft cloth - not terry cloth towels because the fibres cannot pick up dirt - a pail and water.

Choose a shady spot to wash your car. If you cannot find one, the best time to do it is early in the morning or late evening. It would be less hot then.

Start by hosing down your car with water to remove grime and loose debris.

Mix the shampoo with water in a pail - follow the instructions on the bottle - and with a cloth or soft sponge start covering the entire body of the car with the shampoo solution.

It's easier to start with the roof. Stand on a stool to get to the hard-to-reach places. Work your way down the car, washing the windows, doors, the bonnet, bumper and lights. Then rinse the foam from the top down, using a gentle stream of water. Lastly, don't forget to wash the wheels, hubcaps and sides of the tires and then rinse thoroughly.

When you are done with the washing and rinsing, it is important to dry your car to prevent water spots. Water spots are caused by mineral deposits that etch the outline of a drop of water onto your vehicle's paint.

You also need to wipe the water from inside the trunk, hood and doors and other hidden areas; otherwise water will drip in and leave spots.

If you feel like it, you can vacuum the interior of your car.

Now that is done, you have a clean and sparkling car. It may be hard work but the end result is satisfying.

======

Hope the simple money saving tips works well for you!

Yet Another Wedding, Nope its a Special One

Tomorrow i am going another wedding. Again. And tentatively after this, the next wedding dinner is on 6th Dec 2009.

What makes the wedding dinner tomorrow special? Its my first peer-ed relative wedding dinner! To be held at River City Restaurant. AGAIN. The food is certainly marvellous, (refer to Singapore Tradition Chinese Wedding) and i will not mind eating there again.

The young chap (my cousin), is the youngest in his family, and he got married earlier than his 2 older brothers. And as well as me. Looks like marrying young is the way to go now.

Marrying earlier have its pro, shopping and playing with your kids when you are still physically active. And a higher chance to carrying your grand children when you are in your 40s or early 50s.

The cons? Getting tied down, but it does not matter if you love your SO.

A short sidetrack, marrying in Singapore is like emptying your bank account for the common folks. A single wedding dinner (juz the dinner alone) could set you back easily by 24k for a basic $600/table x 40table. However, the wedding guests will lessen the burden of the wedding by giving cash instead of wedding gifts for the wedding couple. The 24k is only for the wedding dinner, not including the wedding shoots, planning and other misc expenses.

Wonder if my younger brother will marry younger than me?!

A question only to be answered by the future!

Hectic Day - My Day

An extremely busy day and tireding day since i left my job and worked from home and on a project basis. In case you are wondering, i doing computer services for a living.

8-9+ Send my gf to work (cos i stay at her house after a late night PC servicing)

9-11: Laptop Collection for laptop servicing

11+ rest at home for 20mins before rushing off for another lunch appointment.

1+ : Servicing of my mobile, Samsung Omnia i900 at Plaza Sing, LCD issue (Fast service, received a SMS from them at 4+ stating my phone is ready for collection)

1+ : Servicing of Laptop with partner

3+: Return of Laptop to customer

4+: Travelled down to Melvin location for some chit chat session and research session

1030 : home

Maybe it was due to lack of sleep at my gf house that makes me feel extremely tired and grumpy during the day with occassions of short giddy spells.

Other than sitting down in an airconditioned area at Melvin shop, samsung service centre and lunch, my whole body mass was literally on my 2 legs, on the move the whole afternoon.

(Maybe i am growing lazy! IPPT coming~!! OMG!)

After leaving Melvin's shop, tiredness overwhelm me, but the thought of saving some rainy day funds prevented me from taking a cab home!

Out of the 14hours, i was outside, almost 5 hours is spent on transportation, including walking time.

Oh well, another hectic day tomorrow!

So, how yours?

Taipei Fisherman's Wharf - Taipei's Lover's Bridge

Taiwan Taipei Lover's Bridge
(Taiepi Lover's Bridge From far)
If you are planning to a taipei sightseeing tour and take photos, this is one of the places you have to go.

We went to Danshui MRT station (where taipei fisherman's wharf is) on the first day while it was almost dinner time. Why were we this late, because our plane was slightly delayed. Another reason was because, Danshui MRT station was at the very last stop!

At fisherman's wharf, if you were to turn left after coming out of the train station, after walking a short distance, you will be entering their mini shopping street. If you turn right after exiting the MRT station, you be going to the bus interchange.

There will be rows of hawkers selling food, great for us, hungry travellers at dinner time. And shops selling taipei souvenirs, consisting of ornaments and rings. Even me, a non accessory wearer, bought a ring for around S$5, just
becase it was supposed to bring me luck~ haha

Along the stretch of danshui streets, there will be shops selling taiwan speciality food, like your muchee or mua ji and iron egg , 铁蛋, which are black colored eggs. And the prices are cheaper than anyway in taipei maybe was due to Danshui location being too far out from central taipei.

No point bargaining, we tried and failed terribly. haha

Without knowing, time flies and it was 9+, hurrily we proceed to take bus 26 at the bus interchange to shoot some pictures at Taipei Lover's Bridge. Night scene was pretty as compared to the previous time where i arrived in the afternoon.

Over there you could see why it was called the lover's bridge 情人桥, couples were aplenty but they all were decently sitting down and chatting xD

The location was romantic, you can just feel it. However, do not expect shopping there, as there is nothing to shop. Only restaurants are available at Lover's Bridge which are almost closed at that timing.

What left remaining is to take photos, and massive photo shooting of the Lover's Bridge. I upload a few shots for your viewing pleasure. If you plan to visit taipei scenery location, definitely this is not to be missed

My highest ever facebook bejeweled blitz score! A whooping 200k medal!

Do note that not a single hyper gem was used. Power gems was easy to make in this game and they were near to each other, thus triggering a major blast and the score as shown.

Shocked by the 83600 score in 5s block? I was too. But probably was due to the major blast from exploding of, an estimation of, 14 gems.

Will work harder to blast my way to 225k and 250k =D

Renting Textbook in College as Business

Put a chicken and egg together, what do you get? You get CHEGG.

Now, what is CHEGG?

It is a company that rents textbooks in colleges as business to other students.

The Americans sure have an idea for business. Their brains could just think of all sorts of ways to make money.

What starts as a silly idea to rent textbooks in college became a full time business for this 2 college kids. If you were to think of starting such business in Singapore, 99% of the parents will just laugh off at the suggestion.

The prices for rental are not based on just a flat fee, there are algorithms to determine the textbook rental fees.

Just hope after reading this inspirational article, our college kids buck up and starts a similar business.

My First QB House Haircut

QB HOUSE

I always wanted to try their haircut service since it looks presentable, but i was reluctant to try as i got my regular hairstylist

I was lazy to go to town to cut my hair, thus i settle for the neighbourhood shop and walk by QB house and went in for my haircut.

I acted like an idiot, not knowing what to do inside. The system is pretty unique to me. I have to pay $10 into a machine to receive my haircut card. And take a seat and wait for qb hairstylist. I was called and proceed to sit at the haircutting area.

Service was good, they have a closet behind the mirror which could store quite a lot of stuffs, WOW.

And a small container for my specs, WOW.

Got a big TV telling me that the hairstylists are trained from Japan, WOW WOW.

Sterilised scissors in an UV oven like thing, WOW. Cleanliness.

Impressive for a $10 haircut location.

But not so when the hair cutting session starts. The stylist seems as though she wanted to pull my hair out instead of cutting it, not once but several times. Her actions seems robotic, as though going she was just going thru moments.

She seems as though she was going to give birth, rushing to finish cutting my hair. i had to ask her to re cut twice some portion of my hair as it was not up to expectation. (I already had pretty low expectation for a $10 haircut)

And she does not seems to be trained from Japan. After checking on their website at home, i discovered "... pioneer QB House Hair Stylists are professionally trained by Japanese instructors..." Note the pioneer word.
"The company also takes added care to the welfare of the staff, including sending them overseas to Japan" If they are well liked by customers? Holiday or haircut?

The fun part was when your hair was getting vacuumed. Yes, they use tube to suck out the loose hair in your hair.

Interesting experience, but i will only try it again when i am too lazy to go town to cut.
