If you do not understand what the promotion is about, do not worry. I don't understand too, when i am reading it the first time.

Well, sometimes i do not understand why they need to make a simple promotion so complicated. In case you still have doubts. Here the explanation.

1) Call your bank and inform them that you wish to convert your Credit Card Points into NATAS$

2) Collection of NATAS$ vouchers will be based on bank's arrangment. *UOB mastercard holders may collect their voucher at the travel fair.

3) Bring your vouchers to MasterCard redemption counter to exchange for a Prepaid NATAS$ MasterCard. Amount in the prepaid CC will be the same value as your voucher.

4) Use the Prepaid card to offset your travel purchases. If Prepaid card does not have sufficient value to offset your purchase, you have to use back the same credit card to pay the remaining value.

That it. It this simple. Or was it?

Sounds extremely troublesome to me.

At step 2, we do not know how the bank is going to arrange to pass us the vouchers.

And after receiving the vouchers, we still have to change for the Prepaid MasterCard. And we have to use back our card to pay for the rest of the tour package fees.

Unless you have spent close to a million in the past few years, i do not believe that your loyalty points could offset the whole tour package fees, which might consist of a few thousands.

Maybe they are giving a good conversion rate, but i have no idea.

Chinese Valentine's Day Story 七夕 华人情人节的故事

What, a chinese valentine's day in the middle of the chinese hungry ghost month? Are you asking this question? Well, yes, no errors, this valentine's day falls on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month

This day has other names such as 七夕节 Qixi Festival, 乞巧节qi qiao jie

Chinese Valentine's Day History 华人情人节历史

How this day comes about is as follows.

Once upon a time, there lives a young man Niu Lang 牛郎 who lives alone with a cow (Of course an ox. FYI 牛郎 in chinese translation is cow guy) because he was ill-treated by his brother and wife.

And surprised! It is a magical cow that can talk. Conversation as follows.

The cow : "If you wish to find a companion, i teach you a method to get a fairy as a wife."

Niu Lang : "How how?"

Cow : "A group of fairies will be bathing in a lake at xx hour and xx day. If you hide their clothes, they will not be able to return to heaven."

Niu Lang : "GREAT METHOD!"

On xx hour and xx day

7 fairies appear at the lake and start to disrobe to bath.

Niu Lang : "The cow is truly magical! The timing is so accurate."

Acting on the cow's advice, niu lang hides the robe of the fairy called ZhiNu 织女

After bathing

ZhiNu : "Who stole my clothes, did anyone see them?"

6 other fairies : "Nope. We need to go back first before Queen of Heaven discovered that we sneaked out. We try to cover for you. Faster find your clothings and come back."

ZhiNu "Okay"

After the fairies fly back

Niu Lang : "Look no further, your clothings is here. Will you marry me?"

Zhinu : "Okay, lets get married"

Somewhere after marriage and before a few years on earth

Cow : "I am old, i know i die soon. Keep my hide after i die. It is very useful in an emergency."

Zhinu & NiuLang : "Emergency? What Emergency? Dont worry You be fine."

Cow : ..........

Zhinu & NiuLang : "He's gone. Lets follow his instruction and keep his hide and bury him."

After a few years on Earth, which is a few days in "Heaven Days"

Zhinu gives birth to 2 healthy children. And the Queen of Heaven discovered that Zhinu is missing and has given birth to 2 children.

Queen of Heaven (QOH) : "HOW DARE SHE. Send the troops to capture her back from earth. NOW!!"

Troops : "Yes Madam! Troops, Storm the front. Go Go Go."

And Zhinu was swiftly and easily captured back to heaven.

NiuLang was not at home when Zhinu was brought back. Hence he got a big shock to discover Zhunu missing.

** Note, at this part, whether the children are still on earth or taken back to heaven is still a debate. As some part of history states that the children are left behind while some states that the children are taken back as well**

Niu Lang at this point of time, remember the cow's hide.

Niu Lang: "Now is this is definitely an emergency. Its time to bring out the cow hide!"

Niu Lang wears the cow hide and discovered that he is able to fly and follow the troops.

Sensing Niu Lang following them, Queen of Heaven became angry and summon a raging torrent between them. And the torrent is now know as the 银河 or Milky Way.

Being separate from each other's love, both weep sadly and they moved the Queen of Heaven. She allows them to meet once a year on the 7th day of the 7th month.

Which explains why this day is called the Chinese valentine's day

The storyline is generally the history of the story of Chinese valentine's day. Why generally? Because there are many variations in the chinese history about chinese valentine's day. But this is the version that i grew up with and most familiar with.

A Tibute to My BenQ LCD Monitor

Finally, after using for more than 3 years, it died off. Screen was blank and power to the benq monitor were intermittent.

This was not a first hand monitor that i purchased, it was a display unit and hence the cheap price of S$200. I purchased it thru a special offer which my friend Jerald offered me while i was working with him.

A Benq fp767-12 17" LCD monitor for S$200! $200 for a 17" monitor is still steep now in late 2009. But in late 2005 and early 2006, $200 for a 17" monitor was a steal! Back then, even a budget 17" monitor costs S$400+

Gonna miss using dual screen~ I still not used to using a single monitor. As usually i open a lot of windows and prefer looking at both monitors while doing work.

It's amazing how the things manufactured back in the past last so long, while electronic items manufactured now spoils just after the warranty period ends.

I could still remember how durable my first nokia phone was (nokia 3310). As compared to the samsung phone i have now (samsung omnia one 16Gb). ~_~

Chinese Hungry Ghost Festival 龙历七月

Chinese Hungry Ghost Festival 龙历七月 is known as the chinese version of Halloween.

Unlike Halloween which lasts for only a day, Chinese Hungry Ghost Festival last for a month, or maybe even longer, depending on the lunar calendar.

During this period, ghosts are released from hell and are allowed to roam earth. Stages shows (getais) are held to please them and are mostly for the ghosts' entertainment.

Getais usually involve having different singers to sing for around 3 hours a night for the whole month. The singers will usually sing dialect songs and are in flashy costumes.

However, with the entry of young singers, now, even english songs are sang and new events such as pole dancing are added into the getai programs!

The Chinese will held auctions during 龙历七月, to sell off products and raise funds for the temples.

The products are usually donated by members of temple out of devotion. The bidders, sometimes try to outbid one another to win the item as winning the item is thought to bring good luck to the winner for the rest of the year, through "donations" to the temple.

Offerings such as paper money (money for ghosts) and food are burnt and displayed along the roadside or walkway for the ghosts to eat. This are common sights especially during the 1st day, 15th day and 28th day the 7th month.

The chinese hungry ghost festival , 龙历七月，is a noisy event to celebrate the ghostly event. That the way how chinese does their celebration, the noisy way!

Singapore InvestFair 2009 - Kishore PowerUp Capital Review

I went to the investfair at suntec and it was not as crowded as PC Fair, which was a good thing. However, most of the people there seems to be interested in collecting freebies and are of spill over crowds from the job fair in the next convention hall.

First talk i attended was the options talk by optionxpress, which i say, bored me, because i haven had a single irk what the speaker was speaking about, and knowing that it is something like stocks with limited holding periods.

And i went off for a forex talk by Kishore M from PowerUp Capital. This guy certainly can talk. Well, he seems like a motivational speaker to me and had a marvellous tongue. During his 1 hour talk at seminar 2, he shows video testimonials of his students praising him, rather than information with the crowd.

After his 1 hour seminar, i learnt that he had a mini ballroom with a 2 hour talk, which i went, feeling pretty excited that i might be able to snatch a tactic or so from the guru. A free booklet and CD was given to people who attended the close door seminar.

The close room talk to me, was similar to the open seminar conducted by him in the main hall. This close door seminar was more of a sales talk than educative talk which i was expecting. A lot of testimonials were shown to lure you to sign up with the course.

He informed the public that he will be sharing 4 of his trading methods. Which he did share, with extremely vague description.

Something like,

Tactic 1 : ABC DEF of trade

with a 1 line description.

His sales talk, was #1! He will slowly sway you into the final action, which was to sign up for his course, asking you to perform small persuasive actions which you will not have noticed.

His favorite question to us, "Yes or Yes" , never a yes or no. "True or True", Never a False ~_~

The course fee was just "affordable", in my humble opinion, at S$328/ month for 1 year. The first fifteen people that signed up will get a netbook free with all the charting software. and US250 in their trading account. Marvellous deal, am i right?

Considering the cost of a netbook at around S$600 and USD$250=~350, we will get a discount of $950 off. Which reduces the final course fee to S$2986. Seems like a valued course for forex courses which usually lingers around the range of S$4k

I almost signed up straight on the spot, til to his excellence sales talk. Since sunday is a last day to sign up, me as a typical human, procasinate on my actions.

Upon reaching home, i read the booklet, which provides 4 pages of basic forex information, and the rest? Kishore M's and his company's achievement as well as his other internet marketing business.

The CD? It provides information on 1 forex strategy, and some links to account opening and his 85 pages book "Get Rich Young Book" Pretty useful basic information again.

And being the online person, i google for "Kishore M review" and "Powerup Capital review"

Guess what i find? Try Googling yourself (=

Microsoft Internet Explorer - Complete turn off

All along i am not a fan of microsoft internet explorer.And probably never be.

Due to the browser hijacking and stuff, my preferred choice of has always been firefox and recently google chrome. Always for some reasons, IE will SUDDENLY die off while FF and chrome and working PERFECTLY fine.

And spending time to find solutions online yield no results. Hence, i have up on IE a long time ago.

And all the while, my Pc has only the basic version of internet explorer which was IE6 and i installed all updates, except for, you know it, microsoft IE. Recently i have no choice but to use IE, as i notice that some of my websites which have been display issues with IE.

And for the sites that have display issues, they are showing again, PERFECTLY fine in Firefox and chrome. Changing alignment for the sites do not help as the display and alignment issues are still present.

The last straw came today. When again, IE died on me, when i refuse an upgrade to IE7. I was able to surf the net to check on one of my sites using IE6, however, after refusing an upgrade to IE7, the browser refuse to work after i restart it.

If not for the fact that i am in desperate needs to adjust my screen alignment for IE browsers, i will not even bother about that.

With such poor support and buggy browser, no wonder they need constant upgrades and patches!

Updates: Finally all is working after a reluctant update. And seems that the new IE8 solved all previous screen alignment issues and bugs!

5 Tips to Protect Yourself During Chinese Hungry Ghost Festival

Well, its festive season again. Well, not for us human, but for the hungry ghosts.

Chinese hungry ghost festival is celebrated during the 7th month of the lunar calendar which is not a fixed date on the Gregorian calendar which we commonly use.

Legends state that the day is where ghosts are released from the gates of hell for a month to roam earth and offerings and stage shows (getai) are made by human to please them.

To prevent yourself from offending them, and protecting yourself, here are some tips which are devised from my experience.

1) Never step on offerings

If you see a small fire burning on its own with candles, do not put them out.

The burnt offering and food placed on the floor are meant for the "good brothers"

Put out the fire at your own risk.

2) When you hear voices calling you at night, turn your head and shoulders around instead of only the head.

Spiritual Fires are known to exist on forehead and our 2 shoulders (3 fires) By turning your whole shoulder around, you are using your 3 fires to confront the unknown.

3) Never Sit on the 1st row of empty seats at outdoor entertainment venue (Getai)

They are not meant for human, but for you-know-who. You may sit on it, and you could be officially sitting at the 1st row the next year...

4) Do not swim

Unless you want to be the replacement to be the next drowned ghost.

5) If a pretty girl, in red, yellow or white, approaches you in the middle of night and is smiling seductively at you (For Guys)

There is no reason for a woman to smile at you in the middle of the night, its either there is something cranky with her brains or... either way, RUN!

Orphan - Movie Review

I been a movie freak this month. Several special events and great shows are the causes of the increase in movie watched.

You could never image the sweet child in the image above, could have a murderous look in the movie.

Story as follows, Kate, had a stillborn and was haunted by that event. John being the good husband, decides to adopt another child.

At the orphanage, they are attracted to Esther, for her intelligence, maturity and being "unique" and brought her home. And that is where the trouble starts.

Accidents and death happen around Esther to people who are against her. Kate, in esther's bad book, decides to investigate esther's background and discovered that she is not who she was.

Spoiler as follows :

In the movie, Esther pushes another student down a playground slide and kills the sister of the orphanage where she grew suspicious of her. Using her innocence, she successfully destroys the relationship of John and Kate, by behaving like a sweet angel in front of John while she did all kinds of stuff to annoy Kate.

She controls the household kids, Max and Daniel, by threatening them with their parents' safety.

Kate learns about Esther's history and tries to warn John, who was protective of her, and ignore Kate's warning which eventually caused his own death! Kate did her own investigation and was shocked by what she found.

This orphan movie, kinds reflect reality, where adults rather give benefits of the doubt to children just because they could be innocent and trusting a stranger, in this case, Esther, rather than their own wife or children.

Watch the movie as that is nearly the ending.

I guess i have incidents like this where i trust strangers more. Are you guilty of it too?

During the movie, i already had a hint what and who esther was, as it was getting obvious. Almost predictable ending to me, but the suspense and thriller still kept me in my seat.

Well, just be careful if you plan to adopt a child. If you find a child being over-clever, do a thorough background check on him/her.

Another thing, if your child loves to paint, buy a UV light and shine on his/her image, you never know what you will see!!

Kelloggs Cornflakes vs Nestle Cornflakes Review

With reference to living on a budget, cornflakes have been my biscuit and milk for the past few weeks as my supper. I get amazingly hungry at night, yet my pants are getting looser. ~_~

Due to the economical pricing of Nestle cornflakes at $3.52 for 275g,Nestle cornflakes was my main choice for the past 2 months, however, Kelloggs being a veteran in the cornflakes market, caught up and gave an even better promotion which caused me to purchase 2 boxes at 1 shot.

350g at $3.40 for a kelloggs cornflakes is certainly cheap to me. It is cheaper and gives more! What can i ask for. Typically their pricing for a 350g cornflakes hovers in the $5-6 range, hence the switch.

I just hope that air and cardboard is not included in the 350g

The taste overalls appeals to me as well. The childhood taste of eating cornflakes.

Kelloggs cornflakes are not as "soggy" as nestle's. They are much crispier to begin with. And they will not lose their "hardness" that easily in milk as compared to Nestle's. After a 10minute milk bath, they are still "hard"

Probably Nestle need to give their cornflakes some 'extra' ingredient to ensure they can maintain their hardness.

If Kelloggs is maintaining this pricing, high chance i am going to be their customer for a long time~

Facebook Bejeweled Blitz How to Easily Get Mulitplier Gem

Long while since i had posted anything related to facebook bejeweled blitz, how since i have queries asking for multiplier gems, i decided to make a post just for this.

Well, i believed you already knew how to get multiplier gem in facebook bejeweled blitz.

In case you are unsure, allow me the honor of explaining to you.

Eliminate 12 gem in a single swap move.

But how?

I have written some tips in facebook bejeweled blitz truth, but i found out that it was not enough to explain how to get multiplier gem, hence this post is purely dedicate to explain how to easily get multiplier gem in facebook bejeweled blitz.

What is a multiplier gem?

It is a gem which can multiply your score? Marvellous? In fact, it is best and most important gem in this 1 minute game to achieve your high score rankings.

Why is it so important?

Your score is somehow related to the multiplier ratio you have. In fact, you can get up to 6x, which i have not get yet, the best i have so far is the 5x multiplier gem.

How to get it?

A multipler gem will only drop if both the conditions are met

- The previous multiplier gem must not appear within the last 10s

- A single swap of tiles which will eliminates 12 or more tiles.

Easy? not so if you look at the rule "A single swap of tiles which will eliminates 12 or more tiles"

Method 1

To use a single swap to eliminate 12 or more tiles, you need to have at least a combo of 4 continuous cascade swaps, (4 x 3) this is extremely difficult and rare, unless your luck is extremely good.

Method 2

However there is a shorter method, use a power gem to clear 9 gems, and pray for a cascading match of 3 gems, which gives you a clearance of 12 gems in a single swap and hence your multiplier gem.

The above image is photoshopped for easy reference example. I have tried for the past 10 games to get a similar image, but failed, hence the photoshopping. (=

Method 3 (Most effective)

Another more effective method, is to do the reverse of method 2. Instead of doing a power gem clearance, and hope for a cascade match, you match the cascade and ensure the next move will clear a power gem.

Look at the image above, you swap the orange gem on the right with the blue gem at the bottom, what do you get?

The whole row of orange gem will be cleared, the green gem will join and blast off by the power gem which effectively gives you 12 gems clearance in a single move!

Yes, another photoshopped example ~_~

As per above image, you swap the green gem on the extreme right with the orange gem under the yellow power gem and you get another clearance of 12 gems! (3 by cascade match of green gems, and 9 by clearing the yellow power gems)

Another Movie Review - Disney Pixar Up 3D

I nearly did not have the chance to write this movie review - disney pixar up,

Firstly, i book this movie without my gf's knowing, wanted to give her as a surprise

Secondly, she was feeling sick and did not wanna move out of her house. Had a hard time giving her the surprise.

The story starts with 2 young kids, playing "adventure" which they have a dream to fly to the paradise fall in south america and build a house on the fall.

They eventually marry but sadly the girl died of old age, failing to fulfil her dream.

The poor old man, Carl, being alone decides to fulfil their dream when he was force to circumstances to evict his house.

From the poster and previews, as you know, he gathers a large amount of balloon and UP his house went. Within the 30 mins into the show, he landed in south America and starts moving towards his desired location. With a big ostrich, a kid, dog and dogs~ And where he meets his childhood idol which becomes his enemy, who was not what he

Pretty touchy show when scenes of how he recall his dating moments with his wife and while he flip thru the "adventure book"

Well, if i am not wearing the 3D specs, it will be another usual cartoon movie. As this is the 1st time i am wearing it, the effect is certainly "real" Literally, you can feel the characters jumping out from the screen.

Remember those dinosaur sticker books which offer 3D specs when you bought when you are young? Something like that, the characters start out from the background.

Enough ranting of the effect. Time to move on to the story.

Being a pixar and disney cartoon, you certainly cant miss the humor with the dogs and the ostrich.

The show certainly re-awake our childhood dreams which in this case, Carl decides to fulfil his and his wife dream of flying to paradise falls. This proves that even though you are old, you are still carry our your dreams and be successful.

Simple story plot, which brings out the childhood mindset back.

Watch the 3D version of Disney Pixar Up, the additional $2 bucks is worth the money.

Overheard Movie Review 窃听风云

Can you hear me? Maybe you cant, but they can.

Lau Ching Wan, Louis Koo and Daniel Wu are part of the commercial crime department and are using eavesdropping equipment to catch hold of the Boss and individuals who are manipulating the company's shares.

And when they overheard a piece of news which the company stock will raise, being human, greed and desperation took over Louis Koo, a poor policeman, to buy the stock.

And soon, their superiors start to suspect something amiss and the team was being counter investigated! And at the same time, the Boss starts to investigate them as well!

Being sandwiched between the Good and the Bad, guess what they did?

Overall, overheard 窃听风云 the movie's storyline was pretty typical standard, well you know the ending, the bad guy get caught and ....

And dun tell so much lies, you will have a hard time covering it up!

Singapore National Day Celebration and Songs 2009

Actually i watch the national day celebration mainly is due to the mass display, to see the different performance by the various groups in singapore.

Kinda missed the days when i joined in the 1 of the mass display events under Singapore Soka Association in 2000 or 2001, cant really remember.

During the show, i caught glimpses of the MRT trains passing by and it was pretty empty, when it should be crowded at 7+ Probably most of the citizens are watching NDP at home.

When I first heard this song, but i did not realize this was from a Singapore Band nor was it the main nation day song. The song has a soft linkin park favor. Btw the band is electrico. If you are interested in them.

I have not heard of other songs by them, but with such a nice singles, the rest of the songs should be as nice as well. Great Potential~

** To add on, i feel that asking Chen Wei Lian to sing this song is a bit hurtful for him, since he does not really have his eyesight, and the english version keeps highlighting "what do you see, What do you see"

I thought i did not clean my specs this morning when i went down to eat lunch. The above image somehow describe the haze that i saw. Visibility was not that good and the wind makes you hungry with a BBQ aroma.

And sniffing my nose and looking around, no ones is doing any BBQ-ing.

And well, its seems to be the time of the year, free gifts from our neighbours. Forest smoke.

Typically at this time of the year, parts of indonesian forests will be burned for cultivation of crops. And where does the smoke goes? Blown by the seasonal winds to Singapore and Malaysia!

Just hope the haze does not affect out National Day performance.
